You may remember the story that we highlighted a few weeks ago on Prince Chunk, a the 44 pound cat from Camden, New Jersey. I mentioned at the time that the cat had found a home and a family to adopt him.
But apparently there have been complications in the adoption of Prince Chunk, as Chunk’s adoption is being held up by a contract squabble with shelter. The Camden County Animal Shelter wants the family to sign a special agreement, with required public appearances by the cat with all funds going to the shelter. There was also indications that the shelter considered the family only as a foster family, not as the permanent owners of Prince Chunk.
It would be best for the cat to have a permanant home, and especially if the family wants the cat and agrees that any donations made to Chunk are to be given to the animal shelter. And it does not look good for the shelter from a public relations standpoint to hassling the family in this way, and demanding legal control of the cat. Animal shelters can always use more donations, but this is certainly not the way to go about it.

I’d have to agree with you Chris. I know shelters always need donations, but hassling a family who wants to give Prince Chunk a forever home is a bit ridiculous. I am sure there are other animals that can act as ambassadors for the shelter. It’s unfair to make Prince Chunk do appearances. While he may be a friendly and loving cat, I highly doubt he appreciates being poked, prodded and photographed non-stop. He isn’t a circus animal! Poor guy, he just wants to live out his life in a happy forever home.
